Back to School Guide
This is a late post but I have had three essays to complete, so this post had to wait until they were complete.
I am about to start my fourth week at college and I have learnt a lot in these few weeks. College is pretty different to school, for starters you don't have to put your hand up and you call your teachers, or 'lecturers', by there first names.
So these are my 10 tips....
1. Be prepared- Make sure you have multiple pens, pencils, highlighters and note books.
2. Folders- Have a folder for each subject to keep handouts and notes.
3. Notes- Take notes that you will understand. Use colours, pictures, bullet points, questions... something easy and simple that you can understand.
4. Homework- Make a note of each piece of homework in a notebook so that you don't forget!
5. Coffee- I have found that coffee, and hot drinks in general, are my best friend early in the morning.
6. Attendance and Punctuality- It is important to show up to lessons and be on time so you don't miss anything important... but if you are going to be absent or have been, ask your teacher for the handouts and any work/homework that you've missed.
7. Plan Your Time- In those two hour breaks that seem to appear right in the middle of lessons, do some work... homework, notes, whatever it is get it done while your at school.
8. Ask- It goes without saying, but if you don't understand something then ask. You can ask teachers, other students in your class... as long as they understand you can ask. They aren't going to go over the subject twenty times just so you understand.
9. Use the facilities- Take advantage of the facilities on offer... the computers, cameras, the library... it is all there for you to use and make the most of.
10. Remember your Social Life- Although college and studying is extremely important, remember to give yourself a break... don't overwork yourself.
